Does Christian County need a bigger and better library?

On August 8th, 2017, you will have the opportunity to decide on the future of libraries in Christian County. You may also have a chance to vote on tax and bond issues, depending on your precinct.

Make sure you are registered to vote by July 12th! If you have moved to Christian County or moved inside Christian County, make sure to re-register with the County Clerk’s office. You can also see a sample ballot for your precinct at this location.

Here is the ballot language for the Library issue: Shall the trustees of the Christian County Library be authorized to renew its tax levy to the previously voted and approved rate of $0.20 per one hundred dollars assessed valuation for the purpose of 1) increasin

g the budget for books, materials, computers & technology; 2) expanding library services throughout the county with planned locations in Nixa, Sparta, and Clever, with improvements to the Ozark facility?

Are you going to be out of the county on election day?  

Don’t worry, absentee voting begins June 27th. Again, check with the County Clerk’s office. Absentee voting will end on August 5th.

Are you without a valid photo id?? There are still a lot of questions concerning the new law on voter photo id. But according to the Secretary of State’s office “If you are registered to vote, you can vote!” (But if you do not have a government-issued photo id, you will be required to sign an affidavit and/or receive a provisional ballot.) October 12th Last Day to Register to Vote in Missouri

ALL elections are important and in need of voters. But THIS one is particularly important–to YOU, and to ALL of us! So please make sure you are registered to vote, and that you VOTE on November 8th!

If you have moved recently and have not re-registered, you may not be allowed to vote. You may contact the Christian County Clerk’s Office, 100 West Church, Room 206, Ozark, Missouri 65721 or   call 417-582-4340 or register online with the Secretary of State’s Office.

If you will not be able or available to vote on November 8th, request an absentee ballot through the County Clerk’s Office.

Blue vote buttonThis is an important election, one in which you will be asked to choose a ballot: Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, or Constitution Party.

You will be choosing the candidate of your choice in the following local races: Christian County Commissioners, Sheriff, Coroner; you may also be voting on judge depending on where you live; other local offices are unopposed in the Primary.  State races include: Governor, Lt. Governor, Secretary of State, State Treasurer, Attorney General, and members of the Missouri House of Representative in Districts 138, 139, and 140. National races will include Congressional Representative for the 7th District and Missouri US Senate.

These are all IMPORTANT positions. Please be informed! Check the Christian County Headliner, go to forums, ask questions.

If you will not be able to vote on August 2, make sure to get an absentee ballot. To obtain an absentee ballot, contact the Christian County Clerk’s office (417-582-4340).  AND PLEASE DON’T FORGET TO VOTE!

Blue vote button          If you need an absentee ballot, please contact the County Clerk’s Office at 417-582-4340, or fax 417-581-8331. You may also go to the their website and select the heading “departments” and click “County Clerk.”

In order to obtain an absentee ballot you must have one of the following excuses: 1) you are going to be absent on Election Day, 2) you are incapacitated or confined due to illness or physical disability, 3) your religious belief or practice requires it, 4) you are in federal service (and can include your family), or 5) you are in a certified address confidentiality program due to safety.

Tuesday, March 15th, the Presidential Primary Vote will be open to all registered voters. You must be registered by February 17th. You will be asked to choose a ballot (Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, Constitutional, etc.). You will then be able to vote for the party and candidate of your choice. This vote will determine how delegates are allocated to the presidential candidates.

After this election, voters can participate in a Caucus to determine what delegates go to the District, State, and National Conventions. The Christian County Democratic Caucus will be held on April 7th at 7:30pm, location to be announced.

April Election Coming Up!

Blue vote button On Tuesday, April 7, you will be able to elect candidates and weigh in on community initiatives.

There will be 51 different ballots in this election, so it will depend where you live as to what you are able to vote on. But all cities will have candidate elections, with Highlandville and Sparta also having issues on the ballot. School ballot issues will be voted on in Billings, Fordland, Bradleyville, and Ozark school districts. The Selmore Special Road District is requesting a levy increase and Ozark and Logan-Rogersville Fire Districts will have board member elections. The Chadwick Fire District is requesting a levy increase. Some districts will have no ballots, according to County Clerk, Kay Brown.

To see what you will be voting on, check your voter registration card for your precinct, then look at your sample ballot. The County Clerk’s Office will help with absentee ballots.

Election Day is November 4th this year and we need your vote!

So please register to vote by October 8th if you have moved into Christian County from another county or state.

Even if you have moved from within our county, you need to change your address with the County Clerk’s Office. If you don’t do this, you may end up driving around the county on election day trying to find your new voting location.

Once you receive your new voter registration card, check to see WHERE you will vote. It will be on your card.
