At a special meeting of the Christian County Democratic Central Committee (CCDCC), held on May 22, members interviewed Ken Lovell and unanimously voted him to be our candidate for sheriff in the August 4 special election.
Lovell has years of experience in law enforcement, working in Clever, Republic, Branson, and Nixa police departments. He has also been working as Nixa’s school resource officer. He currently owns and runs A Bit of Country K9 Kennel in Nixa.
In addition, Lovell has 18 years of experience in law enforcement and plans on running for sheriff (as a Democrat) again in 2016. He would like to make a difference in our community and bring back professionalism to the office; he believes the department should have better contact with the community.
A fundraiser for Ken Lovell will be held by the CCDCC on Tuesday, June 30 at the Nixa Community Center Pavillon (McCauley Park), from 6-9pm. We hope our fellow Christian County Democrats will support our candidate by attending this event or by donating to his cause.
We met at Fremont Hills Country Club on December 6th and enjoyed a very nice buffet, a good crowd of fellow Democrats, and an energetic speaker. Randy Bland, President of the UAW Local 710 in Kansas City, spoke about his union and unions in general. He emphasized that no union dues are used for political candidates and that not all union members are Democrats. Union members must approve candidates to support and once they do, members support those candidates vigorously. Most candidates who support union issues, such as prevailing wage and minimum wage, happen to be Democrats.
The Cattywampus Band again entertained us throughout the evening, and Matt Patterson served as auctioneer for the many baskets and other items up for sale. With pies going for as much as $70 and baskets up to $100, we were pleased with the outcome.
Thank you all that attended, those who sponsored, those who donated auction items, and those who sent in money but could not attend. This is a fun social event for local Democrats, but also a fundraiser for the Christian County Democratic Central Committee!

Many Christian County Democrats travelled the snow-covered roads to enjoy our 22nd annual Christmas Party at Island Green Golf Club. After a fine meal, Jay Swearingen, state legislator from Kansas City, spoke to us about his plans to run for State Auditor in 2014. We also enjoyed our favorite band, The Cattywampus Band, who played for most of the evening. Our auctioneer this year was Matt Patterson, assisted by Zoe Billedo; top dollars were paid for the donated items: 10 gift baskets, 6 homemade pies, and 3 gift certificates. A $100 fishing cooler with assorted fishing gear was raffled off, as well as a 50/50 pot. AND besides some beautiful poinsettias being given away, we had a door prize! Few folks walked away empty-handed, and the Central Committee raised funds for the 2014 election year.
The Litton Award, given each year to a deserving member of our Christian County Democratic community, was presented to Anita Jones for her dedication to our cause. (Unfortunately Anita was down in Florida, basking in the sun!)
Thank you to all those who donated their time and/or items for the auction. And a large thanks to our sponsors!
The annual Christmas party and fundraiser is set for December 7th this year. Once again this party and fundraiser will be held at Island Green Golf Club in Republic, Missouri. Last year’s event was a great success and lots of fun!
