Our three local candidates lost their respective races. But they gave it their best, and worked hard and long trying to convince their fellow Christian County folks that they were the best candidate for the job. Unfortunately many of our Republican neighbors look more at party affiliation than at qualifications. The important thing is that they tried. And many folks helped them. Sometimes that is all one can do. Thanks to all who helped these candidates—with their donations, time, and efforts! And special thanks to those brave souls who ventured into the political process, hoping to make our community better: David Stokely running for County Assessor, Bob Rubino running for the 139th Legislative District, and Danny Thompson running for Eastern County CommissionerWe hope you will all continue to serve our county.

Statewide elections went better for Democrats, with Jay Nixon winning as Governor, Jason Kander winning as Secretary of State, Cliff Zweifel winning as State Treasurer, and Chris Koster winning as Attorney General. And we get to keep Claire McCaskill as our Senator in Washington! Unfortunately Susan Montee failed in her bid for Lt. Governor, as did Jim Evans in his bid to take over Billy Long’s House seat.

And last but certainly not least, was the win by President Barack Obama! Unfortunately only 25% of voters in Christian County voted for Obama, but the nation as a whole came through for him.

As Christian County Democrats we must continue to support our fellow Democrats in their campaigns to serve our country, state, and county.

We have 3 Democrats running for office in Christian County this November:

David Stokely is running to retain his seat as Christian County Assessor. David was appointed by Governor Nixon in December of 2010 to fill a vacancy, and he has done much to improve public trust, efficiency and service in the Assessor’s office. David started the Democrat Club of Christian County and was President for many years, remaining active in both the Club and the Central Committee as well as many other public service efforts in the county.

Bob Rubino is running for the new 139th Missouri Legislative seat. The 139th District now includes Nixa, Clever, Highlandville, and Spokane. Bob used to be our Christian County Democratic Central Committee Secretary and remains active as a Democrat in our area. He is a Board member of the Nixa Fire Protection District and is a retired manager with the U.S. Postal Service in Springfield.

Please consider sending each of these Christian County Democrats a check for their campaign. In a county with few Democrats, running for office as a Democrat is never an easy road.
